UDIA NSW Roy Sheargold Scholarship Winner Announced for 2018
The Roy Sheargold Scholarship, awarded each year by UDIA NSW in conjunction with Sheargold, enables young industry professionals to conduct research or further their education.
The 2018 winner is Tony Amidharmo, a former structural engineer and now Assistant Development Manager with Aqualand, currently working on the iconic Blue at Lavender Bay.
Tony is greatly interested in BtR (Build to Rent), presently a hot buzzword in the Australian property industry. He plans to use the scholarship monetary contribution to investigate the existing BtR models in the UK and US, and to challenge the BtR models currently being trialled in Australia, in an attempt to determine if the BtR is economically viable in Australia, and whether it is only viable to large scale developers and investors?
We, at Sheargold, are proud to be supporting Tony in this innovative research which potentially could help unlock the BtR sector in Australia and provide additional housing supply to address the current housing affordability crisis.
SHEARGOLD WINS PRESTIGIOUS AWARD FOR VISTA PARK
Sheargold have taken out the Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) Award for Excellence in Marketing - Land Development for their unique Vista Park development in the Illawarra.
The state-wide award recognised the creative and innovative approach adopted by the Vista Park team mixed with strong branding and appreciation of the market. The marketing included virtual reality goggles, water-repelling art installations, seed woven hand-signed cards and giveaways of John Deere ride-on mowers and monetary vouchers for landscaping, all to reflect a semi-rural lifestyle.
“With so many strong competitors from across the state it was a real honour to have Vista Park recognised in these prestigious awards by our peers in the industry. We also need to thank the broader project team as well as Vista Park residents who have embraced the vision and community building approach we have strived to deliver.” said Michael Sheargold, Managing Director of Sheargold, the developer behind Vista Park.
A telling comment by the judges was:”For a small team they definitely over-delivered, and this award is highly recommended and very well deserved. A brilliant campaign.”
URBAN CURIOCITY
We are very excited that the inaugural winner of the UDIA Roy Sheargold Scholarship, Katrie Lowe, has embarked on fact finding and thought sharing journey she has coined Urban CurioCity.
This program sees Katrie travelling the world to learn about cities, their urban challenges through real life interactions and observations, and potential solutions available. She has launched an interactive blog covering her travels, experiences, research and meetings with on which she plans to share her ideas and discoveries from around the world. This will give her, and her blog followers, an insight into the interactions Katrie has with thought leaders in urban design, planning, and city shaping. As a result of these interactions Katrie hopes to profile emerging bright ideas that perhaps haven’t been talked of, or even considered, before for her peers back home in Australia.
Sheargold, through the UDIA NSW Roy SHeargold Scholarship, are proud to be a supporting Katrie on this epic journey that what will undoubtedly be an extremely interesting, inspirational and innovative two years.
"I believe that in order to have an educated conversation about the future of our cities, we need to understand the whole story behind the challenges we face. Urban CurioCity is a mission to explore these challenges first hand, and share these experiences, in the hope of creating a bolder conversation about the design of our cities of the future."
